Mark Winters Music Biography

Texas-based Indie-rock musician Mark Winters is many things; a soulful songwriter, a witty poet, passionate musician, an entrepreneur, an optimist, a family man and a bonafide rocket scientist! (He has a degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering.)

As a young boy, Mark's grandmother taught him to express himself through poetry, setting him on a creative and expressive path. As a teen, Mark found that music really moved him, generating and intensifying emotions like joy, sadness or aggression, especially strong emotive vocals and guitar lines. As Mark developed his musical style, the poetry and emotional connection became heavy influences to his writing process.

Mark began his music career playing cover songs with popular local band Agave Report (they helped his ambidextrous brain decide whether to play guitar lefty or righty and learned that he could not sing lyrics he didn't personally agree with). Mark’s unflappable and optimistic outlook on life gave him the urge to share his original voice. Combining his music knowledge and his thoughtful and stirring poetry (John Mayer meets Tom Petty) Mark's music embodies this signature sound with lively, soul connecting guitar riffs and memorable lyrics that interpret life, uplift, encourage, and inspire. His approach to songwriting is open and honest, sharing his innermost thoughts and emotions to create a personal and memorable connection.

Mark enjoys taking something complex and making it easy to understand and share. Mark’s lyrics sometimes begin as a Haiku; logical because the meter is so precise. His message is syncopated from his scientific left brain into catchy lyrics that flow magically with the smooth clean tone electric guitar chords. Taking complex emotions, thoughts and experiences and expressing them simply with right-brain creativity and insights.

Each song on his debut album Slipstream is a story full of emotion and life's journey’s. Slipstream (from those aerospace engineering studies) refers to the stream of air behind any moving object, usually in the context of making the effort of moving behind someone easier for everyone (think birds flying in a v-formation flock). A feeling Mark had working with all of the incredible musicians and producers who helped him in creating the album.

His sophomore album Boundary Layer showcases another intersection of Mark’s scientific mind and his passion for positivity and good works. Boundary-Layer is a tribute to those who have helped Mark in his life’s journey to break out of the “normal” in life, the boundaries we put on ourselves and others put on us, and pursue the person he was meant to be (Scientifically it's the place on an object in a moving fluid where things can either start moving or stand still). Mark’s goal with this new record is to inspire others to break through barriers in their lives, to use emotional connections and energy to start moving in the direction they were meant to go.
